The Ridden

NERVE RELEASE COURSE
15 Week Cohort Complete with 10 Learning Modules, 6 Live Discussions and 6 Private 1:1 Virtual Lessons

Next cohort planned for April 2025!
In this course, we will take you and the horse of your choice through a journey that will transform your horsemanship and understanding of classical principles in the most profound way.

You will get a fundamental understanding of the equine nervous system and how to utilize your hand and seat to find where the horse is struggling with lack of range of motion and suspected nerve compression, and the principles of how to use the seat and hand, to release them.

Regardless of your discipline or level of training, this course is for you.

Our course is specifically helpful for...

Horses that are “heavy to the contact”

Horses that “hide/curl” from the contact

Horses that struggle with rhythm and collection

Horses that struggle with imbalance around the bend

Horses that struggle with intermittent/undiagnosed lameness.

Riders that struggle with feel and timing

...and anyone that wants to have a more in-depth anatomical lens and learn how to better support the horses that we are dealing with today.
Ridden Nerve Release Course Modules
Module 1 – Understanding the Modern Horse

Module 2 – Cranial Nerves, Cervical Nerves, Shoulder Crease

Module 3 – The Equine Tongue and Hyoid Apparatus

Module 4 – Cranial and Cervical Joints

Module 5 – Myofascial and Kinetic Lines

Module 6 – Principles of Gear

Module 7 - Manual Nerve Release Lesson to Release the Poll

Module 8 - Manual Nerve Release Lesson to Release the Neck

Module 9 - Manual Nerve Release Lesson to Release the Hyoid

Module 10 - Bit Lecture and Bit Release
LIVE 1:1 LESSON - PRINCIPLES AND PRACTICES OF THE RIDDEN BIT RELEASE WITH TARA DAVIS

We will walk you through using the bit for hyoid and cranial nerve release, as well as explain the nuance of tailoring the process to your horse and the principles of riding with this practice in mind. The function of the Ridden Bit Release is to reprogram the concept of contact for both horse and human, to learn how to influence the tongue and, in turn, the body through the contact while precipitating nerve release through touch of the reins.

With the process of the Ridden Bit Release, we focus on using the hand for good, to bring healing and space to the tissues, and to increase range of motion and allow the innate connection of bodies to flow more freely.

You will watch first-hand as the horse will naturally find its way to pillar 1 as result of this practice.

LIVE 1:1 LESSON - TRANSITIONS IN HARMONY WITH THE NERVOUS SYSTEM WITH CELESTE LAZARIS

You will learn how to practice harmonious transitions in Pillar 1 with Celeste Lazaris. We will teach you how to attune to the horse to find the most effective timing for aids, as well as how to communicate upwards and downwards transitions without activating the sympathetic nervous system and creating tension within the body and mind.

You will practice utilizing the process of transitions as a way to deepen attunement and build trust in communication.
LIVE 1:1 LESSON - HALF HALTS UTILIZING PILLAR TWO WITH TARA DAVIS

The elusive half halt! You will learn how to implement this greatly misunderstood aid through the understanding and practical application of the anatomical lens of the Pillars and Nerve Release.

You will be guided towards establishing the half halt in a congruent manner. We will teach you how to accomplish this without increasing tension, instead increa
sing relaxation and connection with each application furthering the release through the body and breath. Learning a correct half-halt is key to giving the body the opportunity to find balance without brace, which so often is the root cause of a dysregulated nervous system and cervico-thoracic nerve compression.
LIVE 1:1 LESSON - COLLECTION AND EXTENSION - COMBINING PILLARS ONE AND TWO WITH CELESTE LAZARIS

You will be guided through how to feel the difference between tempo and length, as well as learning the fundamentals of collecting and extending without compressing the neck or triggering brace. These movements are geared to help the diaphragm come online and create more space around the spinal nerves. You will incorporate all of the previous modules, deepening your understanding and influence over the body, stride length, and contained energy in a way that builds more harmony, relaxation of the nervous system and fluidity to the joints.

LIVE 1:1 LESSON - RIDING THE BEND: SEAT CONNECTION FOR PILLAR THREE WITH TARA DAVIS

Building on the principles of the previous lessons, we will teach you the process of targeting the spine through the seat bones, with the mobility afforded from the correctly applied Ridden Bit Release.

We will teach you how in its purest form, the spine-to-seat connection can release the nerves of the shoulder and spine to truly activate the body and establish the crucial communication needed for riding on a bend.
LIVE 1:1 LESSON - RIDING THE BEND: BIT CONNECTION WITH CELESTE LAZARIS

You will learn how to combine the previous lessons to access lateral flexion with the bit in movement, while creating and maintaining spinal integrity.

We will begin with the freedom of motion already established in prior lessons, starting at the atlanto-occipital joint and continuing down through the joints of the spine, shoulders and pelvis, and explain how this helps to restore blood flow and healthy communication for the nervous system.

You will deepen your understanding of the subtleties of the bit in communicating and restoring range of motion to the joints during patterns of movement, fully immersing yourself in the intricate connections to the body during correct flexion and bend.

This lesson is the culmination of all of the previous lessons, and the pinnacle of Ridden Pillars and Riding for Nerve Release.
The next cohort is planned for April 2025!
If you'd like to receive notifications about upcoming cohorts, please join the first-to-know list here.
We will only be accepting ~30 students in each cohort. Master Class membership is the only prerequisite. You will need access to the same horse for all six 1:1 lessons. You will also need to have access to a safe riding space where you can perform all gaits and work in a straight line, and connect to wifi or data for streaming. As with all things BTMM, you’ll get access for life as well as recordings of all of your 1:1 lessons for your continual review.

Live Q&A sessions will take place on Fridays at 9am Pacific. Recordings will be provided for those who cannot make it live.
